This list of 10 people is not meant to be comprehensive. Since it was founded in , the National Gay Pilot Association has become the largest and most influential group of LGBTQ+ professionals and enthusiasts in the world. But NGPA is much more than just a tight-knit community of like-minded aviation nerds who also happen to be queer. The NGPA accomplishes these goals through advocacy, inclusion training and by hosting special events, expositions, and webinars throughout the year. This is huge! Vaughn funds student travel and participation in industry events hosted by these organizations and many others. The NGPA connects aviation enthusiasts, members of the military, women, families, flight schools and others.

It is all about building a safe community. Those who choose to join the NGPA as members can receive counseling services, mentorship, access to jobs, podcasts, publications and more. Some of the benefits include membership in the University Chapter, discounts to NGPA events, subscription to Contrails magazine, access to aeromedical resources and counseling, and access to job postings and forums.

Pride month is celebrated around the world every June to acknowledge those who were involved in the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village, New York. Pride Day is celebrated on June 28 as the day when the first Pride march was held more than 50 years ago in New York City. The GSA is a student-led club that provides a supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender students and their allies.

The cost of pursuing a career as a pilot can deter students from achieving their dreams. The NGPA can help.
